As Winners of the Most Improved Quartet Award at the 2011 Region 7 Quartet Competiton, Wild Hearts is extremely excited and proud that our continued efforts over the past few years have again received such wonderful recognition!

  • Cindy Johnson, Lead
  • Holly Hurley, Baritone
  • Deb Rieger, Tenor
  • Becky Fye, Bass

Wild Hearts quartet was organized with the four current members in 2009.  They all agree that singing in a capella choirs lead to an initial interest in barbershop singing – and it seemed like it would be a lot of fun!  Individually, each wanted to be a better independent singer.  At some point each found her immersion in this original American musical art form ultimately developed into a love for quartet singing, and decided it was time to go one step further to increase her vocal skills in Barbershop harmony.  They became a truly “Bi-Chorus” quartet with Cindy Johnson - Lead, and Holly Hurley - Baritone, from the Kansas City Chorus, Deb Rieger - Tenor, hailing from RiverSong, and Becky Fye - Bass, who happened to be a Member of both choruses at the time.

More About Wild Hearts

Cindy Johnson - Lead

A doting grandmother, Cindy lives in Platte City, MO, with her husband Kevin.  She has recently begun to pursue the art of Clowning, and is involved with a very active Clown "Alley" in the Kansas City Metro area.  Cindy went to a community event one year that featured the St. Jo Chorus as entertainment.  Later, thanks to her husband, two Sweet Adelines (both of whom have been Kansas City Chorus members) accosted Cindy with "We hear you like to sing."  Her first chorus was indeed the St. Jo Chorus, and the rest is history twenty years later.  She had no previous quartet experience before Wild Hearts, and is having a great time!  In her spare time (?), Cindy sings in her Church choir.

Holly Hurley - Baritone

Holly joined Wild Hearts in July of 2009.  Holly lives in Kansas City with her husband Kent, and really does have other interests in life.  She is an accountant, an avid reader, and is the quartet’s resident techie in computer information systems.  Holly has had a love for vocal music from an early age, singing in church and high school choirs, glee club, and college choirs.  She came to Barbershop harmony through the influence of her high school choir teacher, a member of the Barbershop Society, who instilled a love of the musical art form in his students.  Holly went searching for a Sweet Adelines chorus about two years after graduating from high school, and has sung Baritone and Lead in two other quartets.  She has also been a member of the Sweet Adelines Topeka Jayhawk Chapter, the Pitt-Kan Chapter (Pittsburg, KS), and the Show-Me Harmony Chorus (Joplin, MO).

Deb Rieger - Tenor

Deb Rieger, one of the original members of Wild Hearts, lives in Falls City, Nebraska, with her husband, Roy, and has the farthest distance to drive for rehearsal.  She in was active in choral groups and show choirs in high school.  Deb brought her vocal skills to barbershop, first to a prospective chorus in Falls City, Nebraska, then to the prospective Twin Rivers Chorus, the St. Jo Chorus, and finally to the RiverSong Chorus, in St. Joseph, MO.  She has also been a member of the Ultra Sounds prospective quartet.  One of Deb’s favorite pastimes is shopping, and she currently divides her time singing with her church choir, RiverSong Chorus, and of course, Wild Hearts Quartet.

Becky Fye - Bass

Becky Fye lives in Weston, MO, with her husband, Dick.  She came to Barbershop through her mother.in-law who asked Becky to join her at a Lincolnaires Chorus rehearsal in 1972.  Over the years, Becky has made the music of Barbershop harmony a part of her life wherever she and her air Force husband were stationed.  She has been a member of the Lincolnaires Chorus, the Miami Chorus, the Cheyenne Wyoming Chorus, the Rhineland Pfalz Chorus in Germany, (which she founded!), the Great Plains Chorus, the Gateway Sounds Chorus, the Kansas City Chorus, and currently, the RiverSong Chorus.  Becky has a love for quartet singing, and has been a member of several quartets:  Up N Away, La Bella Canta, Just Because, and now Wild Hearts!  She also has time for community theater, and pursues her love of travel by doing just that - whenever her busy schedule permits.

Wild Hearts quartet was awarded the Novice Quartet Award at the Region 7 Quartet Competition in 2010, and the Most Improved Quartet in the spring of 2011.  They continue this year to focus on improving vocal and performance skills for competition and community entertainment.  Wild Hearts quartet has performed for the RiverSong Reprise of the River Show in St. Joseph, MO, for Trails West Days, in addition to other chorus sponsored activities.  They have performed for private audiences, including birthday parties, as well as singing at their respective churches. Wild Hearts would enjoy performing for your private functions.  If you need some entertainment contact Cindy Johnson at the email listed above.
