Dynamix 400

A Mix of Members and Friends, Harmony and Fun!

         Lead - Eva Vargo

                  Bass - Janet Velazquez

                           Baritone - Leslie Wolfe

                                   Tenor - Danette Kientz

Dynamix was formed in the fall of 2013 when three "ROOKIES" (fairly new members of the Kansas City Chorus) wanted to get together to practice chorus songs in anticipation of the trip to International Competition in Hawaii.  They were lucky enough to have seasoned Sweet Adeline, Danette Kientz, join them to rehearse.  However, it was clear from their first get together that this foursome would do more than practice chorus songs.  Although three of the four members were new to barbershop singing upon joining the Kansas City Chorus, they became dedicated learners of the craft and are now excited for the opportunities ahead of them as Dynamix quartet!

Eva Dynamix 1SEva  -  Lead

Eva moved from Indiana to Kansas in 2013, and at the encouragement of other Sweet Adeline friends across the country, became a Sweet Adeline when she joined the Kansas City Chorus.  Eva sang in choruses throughout middle school, high school, and college.  She credits much of her singing ability and love of performing to her time in the Purduettes, and all-female glee club at Purdue University.  Eva says that she has found her musical "Home" at the KCC, and has jumped in with both feet, accepting the responsibilities as editor of Harmony Happenings, assistant Section Leader and as one of our inimitable front row performers.  Eva lives in Overland Park, KS, with her husband Scott, a talented singer in his own right, and their two cats and one irreplaceable canine.  She currently works for the YMCA running a before and after school program at a local elementary school.

Janet Dynamix 1SJanet  -  Bass

When Janet was born, her music teacher mother, rather than lamenting the fact that her third child was not a boy, exclaimed "I now have my girls' trio!"  True to her mother's prophecy, Janet first performed as an alto in their "sister act" at age five.  Singing and performing in trios and duets became second nature, and she incorporated the "razzle dazzle" into a career as a trial lawyer for over 20 years.  Janet married a music teacher to maintain the family tradition (that and love, of course).  In 2011, she joined the Kansas City Chorus.  Her first performance with the chorus was four months later at the International Competition in Houston, Texas.  After seeing the bright lights, sparkles, and tiaras, there was no turning back.  Janet uses her theatrical background to serve as Makeup Chair for the chorus, and her leadership skills to serve as Education Coordinator.  Janet lives in Overland Park with her husband Bob, who is a recent Barbershop convert.  She is blessed to have her three "kids" and their families all living in the Kansas City area.

Leslie Dynamix 1SLeslie  -  Baritone

Leslie Wolfe was raised with music in her life.  Her mother majored in music so Leslie was fortunate to have some voice lessons as a child.  She grew up listening to show tunes, and fell asleep at night listening to her father's opera (mostly Wagner).  During her high school years, Leslie was a member of the A Capella and Chamber Choirs.  In college she majored in Elementary Education with concentrations in Special Education and Early Childhood Development.  For the past twenty-six years, Leslie has managed to combine the best of all possible worlds between career and family as director of her own In-Home Daycare business.  Leslie has been active in church choirs for over fifteen years, and after she and her husband Brady became "empty nesters" following the "flight" of their five children, she decided it was time to find a place to sing.  A modern woman at heart, Leslie "Googled" - so the rest is history (or HerStory) - and here she is!  She became a member of the Kansas City Chorus in 2013, volunteered to help where she could, and Voila!  Since joining KCC, Leslie has slowly infiltrated her way into many aspects of the chorus, using her dazzling wit and people skills to get things done!  A true Baritone, Leslie waits for no one and demands excellence.  She now has one of the most important responsibilities that affect all of us as members - the Competition Coordinator.

Danette Dynamix 1S Danette  -  Tenor

Danette, who grew up in the Church of Christ, where members sing only without instrumental accompaniment in a capella, found Sweet Adelines was a perfect fit, when, in her early twenties, she was invited to visit the Goldenrod Chapter in McCook, Nebraska.  Twelve ladies in the basement of the library were sitting in a circle learning music, and she was instantly hooked!  Thirty-seven years later, membership in Sweet Adelines has offered opportunities beyond measure.  Highlights of those years include trips to dozens of major cities for the experience of competing internationally with top level choruses and quartets in Denver (with the Skyline Chorus), and Portland, Oregon.  In addition to meeting her husband, Tom, through singing, there has been the sisterhood of music which continues in her life wherever she may reside.  The legacy continues in their three teenage children, who are also singers.  Currently a member of the Kansas City Chorus, Danette looks forward to every Tuesday night rehearsal!  This same joy of music is enhanced with Dynamix quartet and the wonderful women who have embraced her experience and love of competition!
