Co Director - Jo Kraut has been singing solos and playing all sorts of musical instruments since she was five years old.  But, outside of six months of piano lessons, she has had no   formal musical training. So how did she arrive where she is   today musically? Her piano teacher gave her the insight and inspiration to teach herself! At the end of the school year in high school,   she would ask the band director what instrument she needed  for the marching band the next year. Then, over the summer she would learn to play the instrument on her own.

One evening in 1975 , a friend of hers insisted that she go with her to a Sweet Adelines rehearsal. " I'll pick you up," she said. "You'll enjoy it."Before the evening was over, Jo was hooked and her life hasn't been thesame since! Through the years she has done it all. She has sung in,accompanied, and directed church choirs, arranged barbershop music, and filled in musically wherever she was needed. Although she has sung in several quartets, her preference is directing.

Following her husband from one military base to another, she eventually moved to the Kansas City area. Never having been afraid to accept a challenge, Jo became director of the Kansas City Chorus in 1981. As chorus director, Jo has continued to do everything she can to educate herself in barbershopmusic and to improve her teaching and directing skills. As a professional coach, Jo helps Barbershop Harmony Societyand Sweet Adelines Internationalquartets and choruses sing their very best. She is a member of the Sweet Adelines Region 7 faculty and a former Approved Candidate Judgein the music category. She has also achieved the level of Master Directorin the Directors' Certification Program.

Of all her varied barbershop activities, Jo is happiest working with her own Kansas City Chorus. AND... Nothing makes her chorus happier than having
her with them

She graduated with   degrees in Music Education and   Secondary Biology Education  then began a Master's Program in Vocal Performance.

Kim became so busy singing opera that she never returned to her Master's. Kim has   been a professional opera singer for twelve years and has only recently retired to   teach. Kim attributes much of her early education from Sweet Adelines - of which she's been a member since she was 15 years old! Kim thanks Sweet Adelines for giving her the courage to grow!
