The Kansas City Chorus is celebrating its diamond anniversary in 2008! Our
official charter with Sweet Adelines International was signed on October 31,
1948, and we are proud to be the oldest active competing chorus in the entire organization.
Our chorus is composed of a fun-loving group of over 130 women who gather each Monday evening to sing and learn the musical art form of barbershop harmony. Made up of women of all ages and backgrounds, during the day we are mothers, nurses, business professionals, administrators, teachers, bus drivers, etc. But on Monday evenings we become “stars” as we prepare for shows, competititons and performances.
For 27 years, the Kansas City Chorus has been fortunate to have the brilliant leadership of our beloved director, Jo Kraut. In 2008, Kim Kraut joined her mother as co-director, and we look forward to an even higher level of vocal excellence as they work side by side to direct our chorus to new heights.
Although the Kansas City Chorus has become well-known for its wild and wacky show themes, what we are really all about is our fabulous blend of four-part a cappella barbershop harmony. Everyone wants to be in their seat to hear beautiful singing and to see “what they have dreamed up this time” whenever the Kansas City Chorus performs.
Ranking in the top ten each time we have competed at the international level, weare proud to be the 2008 Sweet Adelines International 5th Place Chorus! And after winning first place in our region in the Spring of 2008, we are headed to Nashville, Tennessee in October 2009 to compete in the International competition once again. Our goal continues to be striving for excellence at the International level and making Kansas City proud!
